Why does my computer warn me when I open TypeBreeze?
Windows (SmartScreen) and macOS (Gatekeeper) flag any app downloaded from the web that isn't signed with a paid developer certificate. The message is about the publisher not being verified — not about anything being wrong with the app itself.
TypeBreeze is early-access software, and signed, notarized installers are on the roadmap. Until then, the one-time steps below let you install it in a couple of clicks.
Is TypeBreeze safe to install?
Yes. The warning means the installer isn't signed — not that a scan found anything
harmful. TypeBreeze runs entirely on your own machine, keeps your documents as
plain .md files on your disk, and never asks for an account or sends
your writing anywhere.
How do I install it on Windows?
- Double-click the downloaded
TypeBreeze-…-setup.exe. - If a blue “Windows protected your PC” screen appears, click More info.
- Click Run anyway.
- Follow the installer, approving the Windows permission prompt if it asks.
How do I install it on macOS?

Open the downloaded
.dmgand drag TypeBreeze into your Applications folder. - Open TypeBreeze from Applications. macOS will say it can't be opened — click Done.
- Go to System Settings → Privacy & Security and scroll down to the Security section.
- Next to the note about TypeBreeze, click Open Anyway, then confirm with Touch ID or your password.
On macOS 14 and earlier you can instead right-click (or Control-click) TypeBreeze in Applications and choose Open → Open.
Is TypeBreeze free?
Yes. TypeBreeze is currently a free version, and you can use it for personal, educational, professional, and commercial work — with no account and no licence key. Paid features may arrive later, but you'll always see the price before anything costs money, and you're never charged retroactively for the free version.
Can I use my existing Markdown files?
Absolutely — that's the whole idea. TypeBreeze opens the plain .md
files you already have, with nothing to import or convert first. There's no
proprietary format and no database: every document stays an ordinary Markdown file
you fully own and can edit in any other app too.
Does my writing get uploaded or synced anywhere?
No. Your documents stay on your device and aren't uploaded or synced unless you deliberately move or export them yourself. TypeBreeze works without an account, doesn't read the contents of your files, and currently collects no usage analytics. The Privacy Policy has the full detail.
Which platforms does TypeBreeze run on?
There are native builds for macOS (Intel and Apple Silicon) and Windows (64-bit), both in the download section. A Linux build is on the way.
How do I get new versions?
TypeBreeze is under active development. To move to the newest release, download it again from the download section and install over your current copy — your documents stay untouched, since they're just Markdown files on your own disk rather than anything stored inside the app.
