This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use and protect personal data when you use the TypeBreeze desktop application.

This policy applies to the TypeBreeze application. Our website may be covered by a separate website privacy policy.

1. Local use of TypeBreeze

TypeBreeze is designed primarily as a local desktop application.

Your documents and their contents are stored on your device unless you deliberately save, export or send them to an external location or service.

We do not acquire ownership of your documents.

TypeBreeze does not upload or read the contents of your documents unless a feature clearly requires this and you choose to use that feature.

2. Information we may process

Depending on the features you use, TypeBreeze may process limited technical information such as:

  • the TypeBreeze version;
  • operating-system and device information;
  • language and regional settings;
  • update requests;
  • licence or activation information;
  • crash reports; and
  • diagnostic information.

We only process information that is reasonably necessary to operate, secure, support and improve TypeBreeze.

3. Anonymous install ping

On launch, TypeBreeze sends a small anonymous "install ping" to our server so we can count how many distinct machines are running TypeBreeze. This is on by default, with an explicit opt-out in TypeBreeze's Settings under Privacy.

The ping contains exactly:

  • a random identifier generated once on your device and stored locally (not derived from any personal or hardware information);
  • the TypeBreeze version; and
  • your operating system (macOS, Windows or Linux).

That identifier is reused across ordinary relaunches and across reinstalls, as long as TypeBreeze's local settings folder isn't manually deleted — this is what lets reinstalling the app on the same machine count once rather than multiple times, rather than any device fingerprinting.

We do not collect document contents, file names, typed text, IP addresses, or any other personal or sensitive information through this ping. We do not use this data for advertising, and we do not sell it.

You may disable this ping at any time in TypeBreeze's Settings > Privacy. Disabling it stops all future pings immediately; it does not affect any part of the app's functionality.

4. Logs and backups

TypeBreeze may create logs and temporary recovery files on your device to diagnose problems and help prevent data loss.

These files normally remain stored locally and are not automatically transmitted to us.

You are responsible for maintaining independent backups of important documents.

5. Updates and licence activation

TypeBreeze may connect to our servers to:

  • check for software updates;
  • download updates;
  • verify application versions;
  • activate or validate future paid licences; or
  • prevent fraudulent use of licence keys.

These requests may disclose technical information such as your IP address, application version, operating system and licence status.

Server logs are retained only for as long as reasonably necessary for security, technical operation and legal compliance.

6. Third-party applications and services

TypeBreeze may allow you to use third-party applications, scripts or services.

For example, TypeBreeze may use or launch external tools for:

  • importing or exporting files;
  • opening links;
  • processing images;
  • running user-configured scripts;
  • cloud storage; or
  • future artificial-intelligence features.

When you choose to use such a feature, relevant files, file paths or other information may be transferred to that third party.

Those services operate under their own terms and privacy policies. We do not control their processing practices and are not responsible for them.

TypeBreeze will not intentionally launch user-configured external tools unless required by an action or configuration selected by you.

7. Remote content and external websites

Documents opened in TypeBreeze may contain remote images, videos, embedded content or other external resources.

When TypeBreeze loads these resources, the relevant external website may receive information such as your IP address, browser or system information and the time of the request.

Documents may also contain links to external websites. When you open such a link, the website's own privacy policy applies.

We do not control external websites or their privacy practices.

8. Support and feedback

When you contact us for support or provide feedback, we may receive information such as:

  • your name and email address;
  • your operating-system and TypeBreeze version;
  • a description of the problem;
  • screenshots;
  • diagnostic logs; and
  • sample documents that you voluntarily provide.

You are not required to send documents or information that you consider confidential.

Information provided for support will be used to investigate and respond to your request.

Sample documents will not be shared outside our team except where necessary to provide support or where you give permission.

We may retain anonymised test material after removing personal or confidential information. You may ask us to delete files that you supplied once the relevant issue has been resolved, subject to legal retention requirements.

9. Service providers

We may use service providers for hosting, software distribution, error reporting, email support, analytics or licence management.

These providers may process limited personal data on our behalf and only for the relevant service.

Where personal data is transferred outside Switzerland or the European Economic Area, we will use legally recognised safeguards where required.

We do not sell your personal data.

10. Data retention

We retain personal data only for as long as necessary for the purpose for which it was collected, including technical, contractual, security and legal requirements.

Support communications may be retained while a request is being handled and for a reasonable period afterwards.

Local documents, logs and backups remain on your device until you or the operating system remove them.

11. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect personal data.

However, no electronic-storage or internet-transmission method is completely secure. We therefore cannot guarantee absolute security.

12. Children's privacy

TypeBreeze is not specifically directed at children under the age of 13.

We do not knowingly collect personal data directly from children under 13. If we discover that such information has been provided to us without appropriate permission, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.

Parents or guardians may contact us regarding information submitted by a child.

13. Your rights

Depending on the law applicable to you, you may have the right to:

  • request information about personal data we process about you;
  • receive a copy of that data;
  • request correction of inaccurate data;
  • request deletion of data;
  • object to or restrict certain processing; and
  • withdraw consent where processing is based on consent.

To exercise these rights, contact us at info@typebreeze.com.

We may request reasonable information to verify your identity before responding.

You may also have the right to contact the relevant data-protection authority.

14. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy when TypeBreeze, our business practices or applicable laws change.

The revised policy will show an updated revision date.

Material changes may also be communicated through TypeBreeze, our website or another appropriate channel.
